Every Noise at Once

The Every Noise at Once webpage was mentioned on the Armstrong and Getty radio show. Joe Getty has mentioned it several times over the last few weeks but I had never taken the opportunity to check it out. It is truly a unique resource.

If you've ever heard a journalist, talking head, hipster or even a friend mention a particular music style, this is the place to go to find out what the heck they are talking about. The conversation would go something like this;

"Dude! Have you listened to 'Killing Amnesty'? They're a new post grunge alt. country band."

You think to yourself, "Post-grunge? Alt country? I don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. Can somebody please tell me what those music genres sound like?"

Well, here you go. Every Noise at Once is just what you were asking for. There are clips of every music genre under the sun that also includes links to band listings.

Be sure you clear a spot on your calendar. This may require a commitment of time.

A Band Named Brolly

Stumbled across the indie band, Brolly and their album Hollow Home Rd. on Noisetrade. It's a gem of a free download. They have a very memorable sound. I think it's a bit of shoegaze pop with some soft melancholy electro and acoustic tossed in. It's mellow and reflective at times, almost ethereal. Nice arrangements with strings included on several tracks.

They have a show coming up in Mountain View, Ca. on August 31st at Red Rock Coffee. They open for a Bay Area artist named Danielle Young. I recommend checking both of them out.

Listening to music is hard work

Ethan was listening to his favorite music along with displaying the iTunes visualizer. He was worn out from the days activities and passed out somewhere between the office chair and the futon.

I Love eMusic

There is so much cool stuff to discover. I have found so many new bands that are my "new favorite" that I can't keep track of them. If you subscribe they usually give you about 50 or 75 free downloads just for trying them out. There is also a free daily download plus you can seach for albums that have free tracks on them. The price is right as well. You can be a "Basic" subscriber for $11.99 a month and get 30 downloads. That's less than .40 cents per track!!

One thing to be conscious of is that eMusic promotes independant artists and labels. You can find some mainstream stuff but you might as well go pay more at iTunes if you're looking for Top 40 fluff. This site is for adventurers looking for something new to listen to. A band or a sound or a style unheard by you before. It's like going on an expedition and making a discovery every time you log on.

Just Can't Get Enough

eMusic.com has me hooked like a bad habit. I have discovered mountains of new music on there. I listen to stuff I never would have considered listening to before. Some of that would be -
Evil Nine, Wagon Christ, Underworld, RJD2 and Girlsareshort. There are too many to list but you can check out what I've downloaded and listen to 30 second clips. Some of the clips aren't always the best example of the songs. For instance, on an eight minute electronic, house or downtempo song, you only get a thirty second clip. That in no way can define the entire song. The price of a monthly subscription to eMusic makes it easier to take a chance on a track you are not sure of but intrigued by. My subscription is on the old pricing scale, before the increase. I pay 0.249 cents a song where as the new rates are 0.33 cents a song. It also depends on the program you sign up for. I have the cheapest one being the scrooge that I am. You can save even more by getting annual subscriptions. The most expensive is just under $360 for two years. You get 75 downloads a month. Overall, it's the cheapest because the songs are only 0.199 cents a piece.

I sound like some sort of schill for eMusic, don't I? Notice the strategically placed link. I just love the site and probably spend way too much time on it. The $10 bucks that I spend a month on this service gives me more entertainment than all the other things I spend that amount on.

Jumping on the eMusic Bandwagon

I received a free 30 day trial for eMusic.com a few months back. It included 40 downloads. I was a bit skeptical at first. I couldn't find many bands that had recognizable names. Most were Indie artists. I wondered what good this would do me if I had never heard of any of these bands before.

It did me a lot of good.

I have always enjoyed listening to "new" music. New to me as well as new to all. I literally stumbled across many new artists that I had never heard of and now can't get enough of. Here's just a few that have been on the "A" list in my CD player for quite some time now.
